Un nemico del popolo
Technion/Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israele

"An enemy of the people" - Technion/Israel Institute of Technology – Technion City, Haifa, Israel

The town in which the play is set has a huge bathing complex, that is crucial to the town's economy. Dr. Stockmann has discovered that the baths' drainage system is seriously contaminated. He alerts several members of the community, including Hovstad and Aslaksen, and receives generous support. Thanks to his discovery, he manages to save the town just in time. The next morning, however, his brother, who is also the town's mayor, tells him that he must retract his statements, for the necessary repairs would be too expensive. Moreover, the mayor is not convinced by Dr. Stockmann's findings. The two brothers have a fierce argument, and Dr. Stockmann hopes that at least Hovstad's newspaper will support him. However, the mayor convinces Hovstad and Aslaksen to oppose Dr. Stockmann. The doctor holds a town meeting to give a lecture on the baths, but Aslaksen and the mayor try to keep him from speaking. Then, Dr. Stockmann launches a long tirade, in which he condemns the foundations of the town and the tyranny of the majority. The audience finds his speech incredibly offensive, declares him an Enemy of the People and the next morning the doctor's home is vandalized. He and his daughter are fired. The mayor insinuates that the doctor's actions were merely a scheme to inherit more of Morten Kiil's money, and Kiil himself soon arrives to suggest just such a plan to Dr. Stockmann. However, the doctor refuses all such suggestions and decides to defy the authority and remains in town. His family is supportive, and he says that "The strongest man is the man who stands alone..."

Ha diretto classici come Shakespeare, Molière e Marivaux; drammi  moderni, come John Hughes, Steven Soderberg; drammi  ebraici, come René d'Obadia, Dayan, Levine e Sobol.

The University Theatre Company
The Technion Theatre was established in the department of Humanities andArts by Prof. Michael Moore, and created by Dr. Ouriel Zohar in 1986. Today, its students are offered eight theatre courses, among which:  "Acting and Directing", "(Acting) Drama Circle", "Dramatic Writing", "Israeli Drama", and "Peter Brook's directing". The first theatre production was staged at the Churchill Hall and at the Cinema Hall of the students' center. After that, the department built a theatre with only 120 seats. This hall is very intimate and very special for the students, because it stimulates the creation of a unique communication style with the audience. Since the start of his work at the Technion Theatre in the Department of Humanities and Arts in 1986, dr. Zohar developed his idea of combining several elements of science, philosophy and arts, which he has summarized in his book "The importance of theatre research in the scientific-technological university" (to be published). The book is based on the idea of a holistic theatre that integrates multidisciplinary research.
Dr. Zohar has directed and acted in 17 professional productions and has also directed 43 University theatre productions, 38 of which at the Technion Theatre. He has directed classic plays such as Shakespeare, Molière and Marivaux; modern drama productions, such as John Hughes, Steven Soderberg; Jewish drama productions, such as René d'Obadia and Dayan; and Hebrew theatre productions such as Levine and Sobol.
